Session 1: Soria E. Colomer, PhD - Navigating Languages and Identities Through a Translanguaging Lens: This session will blend lecture and workshop presentation styles to engage audience members in a reflective journey of their own use of language. The speaker will unpack linguistic concepts, as she guides audience members to consider the many features of their linguistic repertoires. The implications of applying a translanguaging lens will be discussed.

Session 2: Adam L. Lambert, PhD - Scientific Communication: Effective technical communication is as important to career development as a solid understanding of science and engineering concepts.  Whether you are delivering a detail oriented talk to other technical colleagues or discussing big picture concepts with business side managers, there are some universal principles which will increase the impact of your presentation.  In this brief talk I will discuss best practices for slide presentations (aka PowerPoint).

Session 1: Glenn Jones - Embers of Tradition: Exploring cultural fire in Indigenous Knowledge and land stewardship: This session will explore the relationship with fire and land that Indigenous people have developed over millennia. We will take a look at the wildfire paradox and land management decisions that have contributed to unprecedented wildfire incidents in recent years.Through this exploration I aim to inspire an appreciation of the cultural, ecological, and spiritual significance of fire in indigenous communities and its potential to foster more resilient landscapes today.

Session 2: Purim Junkham - Doing Science for Whom?: This workshop invites participants to explore how the STEM pipeline can act as a structure that funnels bright young minds away from their communities. Together, participants will identify elements of "hegemonic scientific culture" and examine how these elements create barriers in their academic journeys. They will then explore strategies to counter these practices and center diverse communities within scientific disciplines and research. The goal of this workshop is to generate empowering ways to "do" science and "be" a scientist as a member of a marginalized community.
